Lemon Juice is an acid that will strip away natural colour in your hair. This is the melalin. Depending on the colour of your hair, if you are a brunette, careful as you could go slightly orange. As brown hair as loads of red pigment.

Also you need a catalyst, usually the sun works best.

How long this lasts, depends on how quickly your hair grows, ie your roots, but the colour that remains from lightening your hair will be permanant.Lightening hair with lemon juice. How long does it last?
It only lasts as long as you use it. It will actually shampoo out.
Lemon juice as a hair lightener is only effective on hair that is dishwater blonde or lighter in color. Its bleaching quality is only effective when used in the sun and will not lighten brunettes or red heads.

Using lemon juice on chemically treated hair can turn it an orange or brassy color.

It can also dry out the hair with its acidic quality and make the hair extremely brittle

Used sparingly may be fine in healthy, non chemically treated hair. Also think about this, if you use it too often, you will have bleached hair with roots growing in, now what do you do?
I used sun in on my hair. (It's basically the same thing as lemon juice.) I did it about a year and a half ago. My hair's a gold/copper/auburn-ish color now. I really like my hair and so does everyone else. (So it won't look bad) But, my hair was originally dark dark dark brown. So, when my roots start growing back in again I have to use the sun in so that you can't see the roots. It just depends on what color your hair is. If it's real dark you'll either have to dye your hair or just let it grow out to get your natural color back. Make sure you put in the lemon juice or sun in evenly. You can even make it so that you have a multi-tonal look depending on how you put it in your hair.
Hey I didn't know that you can color your hair with lemon juice.
Using Lemon to slightly lighten your hair works best if you do it in summer as the sun will contribute to slightly bleaching ur hair with the lemon juice in it, and getting sea water in your hair will make an even bigger difference!

Once hair is lightened it'll stay that way until it grows out.

I'm not sure you'll get a real result out of just applying lemon to your hair without sun and/or sea though.
Lemon juice is pretty mild and it will probably only highlight your hair... that is, if you're already blonde.

If will not work with dark colored hair and you'll get best results if you're in contact with heat, like a blowdryer, or under the sun.

If you get some results, it won't last long. At best a couple weeks, depending on how often you wash your hair.

It's fruit your putting on your hait, not chemicals.. It won't react that much
forever because you are bleaching your hair. you just have to redo the roots every 3-4 weeks.
it last until you shampoo it- like someone else said before- but i recomend you use peroxide-
Until you color it again!!!
If you have brown hair I STRONGLY suggest not using lemon juice. Lemon juice will turn your hair orange. If you insist on using lemon juice you need to dilute it with a little water first. It's best to put it on your hair if you're going to be outside in the sun all day. If not, you can use a blow dryer on it and that will work just as well. Also, your hair won't smell like lemons after you wash it!
